Same Day Dental Crowns
A “dental crown,” also known as a “cap,” is a custom-made protective shell designed to fit over a natural tooth, providing enhanced protection and reducing the risk of damage when biting hard objects. Traditionally, crafting a dental crown required 1-2 weeks to complete. However, with the advent of digital dental services, our clinic now offers same-day crowns, completing the process in as little as half a day. Using the latest digital oral scanning technology, the dentist captures the patient’s dental data and customizes the crown based on the individual’s tooth structure. This advancement allows for the fabrication and installation of the crown to be completed within a single day, meaning patients no longer need multiple visits; the entire treatment can be accomplished in just one appointment. Modern same-day crowns are also designed to meet contemporary aesthetic standards, ensuring they are comfortable to wear and virtually unnoticeable.
The installation of traditional crowns typically requires 2-3 follow-up visits. The dentist takes an impression using traditional dental impression materials, which involves the patient biting down on the impression material for 3-5 minutes while it hardens. Some patients may feel uncomfortable or find the smell of the impression material unpleasant. Afterward, the model is sent to a dental laboratory for crown fabrication. During the waiting period, the patient will wear a temporary crown, and only after about 1-2 weeks, once the crown is completed, can the dentist install the permanent crown for the patient.
